My drawings and paintings are informed by my previous investigations in the design process in architecture, which in turn was grounded in the idea of painting. This mediation of two disciplines is of great interest to me because it places my art 'in between' the states of making and being. When I talk about my work, I use architectural terms - such as site, section and plan - to describe the spatial relationships and materiality of what is visible, (or sometimes obscured) in art. Through an analytic process of distillation, my work identifies the material nature of its compositional elements while revealing how they come together in a resolved and therefore functional object.
